Nelson Market & Shopping
The Nelson Tasman region is host to great shopping and electic markets that provide a range of organic, gluten free and local produce that will get your palate singing. Wander down on a Saturday to New Zealand’s best local market in the middle of Nelson at Montgomery Square carpark. There’s over 200 stalls and this is the place locals go to stock up on produce for the week, catchup with friends they haven’t seen during the week, share a coffee and a natter before heading off to have fun outdoors.
The Boulder Bank
The internationally-renowned Nelson Boulder Bank is a natural spit of boulders, formed of the debris of land slips from the Mackay Bluffs, swept southwards by sea currents over 10,000 years. The bank is 13 kilometres long, the last eight kilometres forming a spit which separates Tasman Bay from Nelson Haven. It’s width varies from 55 metres at high tide to 240 metres at low tide.
The Brook Sanctuary
The Brook Waimarama Sanctuary is a community-based initiative working to create a pest-free wildlife sanctuary close to the Nelson city centre in New Zealand. Integral to creating the Brook Waimarama Sanctuary is construction of a pest-proof fence 14km long, to enclose the area, and to eradicate all the pest mammals within it.
